Hyderabad: A skipper's knock of 141 runs by Ajay Ratra and his 71 runs stand with Vidhyut Shivramakrishnan (38) for the eighth wicket helped India to score a massive 492 in their first innings and gaining a lead of 176 against England on the penultimate day of the four day under-19 Test match played at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Monday.
New Delhi: India's cricket chiefs on Monday shifted three One-day matches involving the touring England under-19 team out of Gujarat, where a massive earthquake has claimed an estimated 20,000 lives.
Though India won the first Test match at Mumbai their performance in the second Test was well below par and were forced to follow on but in the second knock Indian opener Gautam Gambihr (212) and Vinayak Mane (201) helped the visitors bat again.
After losing opener Nicky Peng for a duck, England skipper Ian Bell and other opener lefthander John Saddler, resuming after tea at 20 for one, plodded on to add 24 runs before Bell, offering no stroke, was bowled by left arm spinner Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan for seven.
Electing to bat, the English batsmen, who were looking to put behind the first Test debacle, came up with a positive approach and collared the mediocre Indian attack, to place themselves in an enviable position.
The Indian colts (under-19) would be looking to wrap up the series spearheaded once again by left-arm spinner Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan, the architect of the win in the first Test, bowling on home turf.
