St John's (Antigua): The West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) have reached a settlement on the sharing of the team sponsorship for next month's World Cup and compensation of players who are injured while on tour, the Board announced on Thursday. Acting chief executive officer Roger Brathwaite, who led the WICB's negotiating team, said that the cricket body was satisfied with the settlement that maintained the established principle of team sponsorship being shared between the players and the WICB. He added that the LNM group, the team sponsor, will award the team incentives for proceeding to different stages of the competition, which is being held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya. "The team is satisfied with the agreement and fully committed to fulfilling the obligations to the new sponsor," WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine said. West Indies, which won the first two World Cups in 1975 and 1979, faces host South Africa in the opening match of the tournament in Cape Town on February 9.
