Nairobi: Kenyan cricket captain Steve Tikolo has said he would be disappointed if the two World Cup matches in Nairobi involving Kenya against New Zealand and Sri Lanka are moved due to security concerns. "The players will be utterly disappointed if they do not play their home matches as scheduled. The matches must go ahead if the World Cup is to be seen as a truly global event," Tikolo told on Wednesday on the eve of the Kenyan team's departure for South Africa. The International Cricket Council (ICC) executive board is expected to make its final ruling on Thursday or Friday on whether Kenya will host New Zealand on February 21 and Sri Lanka three days later. The New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) has already confirmed it will appeal for the matches to be moved to South Africa, citing concerns about the security and safety of players. Kenyan Sports Minister Najib Balala is, however, optimistic that the new security plan worked out between Kenyan and South African security experts early this week would sway the ruling in their favour.
