Team effort key to India's performance in SA: Kapil

Ahmedabad: Former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev on Wednesday said the Indian team would have to perform 'much more' than its capacity in order to win the World Cup that begins in South Africa on February 6, even as he asserted that 'team game' would be of pivotal importance instead of individual performance of the players.

"They have an urge as well as the potential to win, but the performance has to be much more than their capacity," said Kapil Dev, who was in the city to promote Kinetic Engineering Ltd's latest model 'Kinetic Boss' on Wednesday. Asked how the current Indian World Cup team differed from the 1983 victorious team, he said, "The biggest difference is that the 1983 team had several all-rounders whereas the current team has less all-rounders." All praise for master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev said to a query, "It is immaterial whether he bats at number 1 or number 11. He is the best batsman and will perform at any spot he is sent." The Wisden cricketer-of-the-century was in complete support of 'psychological' treatment to the players and said, "Cricket is a game of positive attitude and thinking. There is no harm in this as it would only boost the players' confidence." Extras:
We can win if we play with courage, passion: Saurav
