London: India was on Friday allowed to participate in the next month's World Cup tournament in South Africa. The ICC Development International, the marketing arm of the world body, following the teleconference between its Executive Board members, including BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, took the decision. The meeting decided that India be allowed to participate in the World Cup even though the players conditionally signed the Player Terms. The Executive Board decision effectively calls a truce between the ICC and the BCCI allowing Indian players to participate in the World Cup. The commercial issues would be solved after the tournament. "This agreement will see the ICC and the BCCI put the current commercial dispute aside for the period of the World Cup," ICC president Malcolm Gray said. "It clears the way for the best team to represent India and ensure that the ICC is able to protect the commercial interests of the game around the world through the agreed process to deal with these issues," Gray said. The alteration to the Player Terms in the case of India will see the exclusion period for tournament sponsors limited to just the period of the event and limitations placed on the use of player images in promotional campaigns. In turn the BCCI will have to accept responsibility for any claims for compensation that arise from the ICC's commercial partners as a result of the Indian team playing under altered contracts.
