Indian batsmen show early form, rain turns spoilsport
Pietermaritzburg (South Africa): Rain put an end to India's World Cup warm-up match against a KwaZulu-Natal provincial side on Tuesday in the Eastern South African town, but not before the batsmen from the sub-continent posted a formidable total. Sent in to bat by KwaZulu-Natal province after losing the toss, Ganguly's men ran rampant, smashing 265 in the allotted 50 overs. Leading batsmen were India's "Mr Dependable" Rahul Dravid and attacking left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh, who both topped the scoreboard with 66 runs. Dravid scored his runs off 67 balls, including three boundaries while Singh smashed his off 69 - five boundaries and one six. They were followed by star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, 47, and captain Saurav Ganguly with 41. The middle order however went quickly with youngster Mohammed Kaif going for seven and all-rounder Sanjay Bangar for 10. When a severe thunderstorm forced the match to be abandoned, the provincial side was 69 for two wickets after 18 overs.
