The indictment of 'tainted' Warne by ACB's committee
Sydney: How the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) anti-doping panel summarised some points it had to weigh up in determining Shane Warne's one-year suspension from cricket for taking a banned diuretic. The findings by a three-person committee were published through the ACB's Website on Wednesday.

  • No attempt was made to ascertain the content of the drug before taking it.

  • The drug was not taken for a legitimate therapeutic purpose.

  • The taking of the drug resulting in the positive reading was not an isolated incident.

  • The player asserted lack of knowledge of the content of the anti-doping policy notwithstanding attendance at seminars and receipt of copies of the policy.

  • He denied any knowledge of avenues of checking use of medication by sportsmen.

  • He knew it was a fluid tablet and expected it to have some effect on his body integrity.

  • The sanction must recognise that the use of diuretics is a serious doping offence.
