Warne could make a dramatic comeback, says Gilchrist
Potchefstroom: Australia vice-captain Adam Gilchrist on Wednesday said Shane Warne could make a dramatic comeback to the international arena once his drugs ban is completed. The 33-year-old legendary leg spinner, who has decided not to appeal against his twelve-month suspension for failing a test for a banned diuretic, was also criticised in the official findings of the hearing for his evidence being "vague, unsatisfactory and inconsistent." But Gilchrist said there was no reason why Warne could not return to the squad once he has served his ban. "In cricket, you always have injuries that can put players out for six and seven months," said Gilchrist. "Shane is in tremendous physical shape and it all depends on his determination and mental toughness but the opportunities will be there." The wicket-keeper, speaking ahead of the world champions' next World Cup game with Namibia on Thursday, also suggested that drug testing of cricketers needed to be adapted to take the sport into consideration. "Dope testing is extremely important but it's an area where there is a need to reassess things. Perhaps it needs a little tune-up or a refining of the process towards cricket." Copyright AFP 2001
