Off spinner Hauritz replaces Warne in Australian team

Sydney: Australian off spinner Nathan Hauritz was named on Monday as replacement for suspended leg spin champion Shane Warne in the squad defending Australia's World Cup championship hopes.

Hauritz, 21, will travel to South Africa on Tuesday to join the rest of the unbeaten 15-man Australian team in Potchefstroom following the pool match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on Monday. He will arrive on time for Australia's final two pool matches against Namibia on February 27 and England on March 2 and is expected to serve as back up for spinner Brad Hogg. The young Queenslander's selection follows the one-year suspension imposed on Warne for a doping offence following an Australian Cricket Board anti-doping committee hearing in Melbourne late last week. Observers believe Hauritz was favoured over leg spinner Stuart MacGill because of the off spinner's record in One-day matches compared to MacGill, who is seen more as a Test bowler. The 2003 Bradman Young-Cricketer-of-the-Year, Hauritz has played five One-day internationals after making his debut on the tour of South Africa in February last year. His last One-day international was against Kenya during the tri-nation series in Nairobi in September last year. He represented Australia 'A' against England and Sri Lanka this season and took 14 wickets for the Bulls in the ING Cup, the third-highest for the season and most by a spinner. Copyright AFP 2001
