Ganguly slams rules, seeks reserve days in league too

Pietermaritzburg (South Africa): Criticising the rules for rain-affected games for this World Cup, Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly on Saturday said a reserve day was a necessity even in the league stage of the competition.

"There should have been reserve days even for league matches," said Ganguly as rains threatened to disrupt India's game against Namibia on Sunday. "It was so in the last World Cup. Teams could lose important points," Ganguly said. While reserve days were allocated for the tournament when the schedule was drawn up, they were dropped at a later stage. Now only the semi-finals and the final have reserve days. "Quite a few games in this World Cup have been affected by rains and fancied teams have suffered as was the case with the West Indies against Bangladesh when they had to split points with the minnows," Ganguly said and admitted he was a bit worried on this count. "I am a little worried about the weather as there are a fair bit of clouds. But you can't get too worried. If it rains, it rains."
