Thatscricket - Specials - WC 2003 - Ganguly's century no 3 puts India in the driver's seat
Johannesburg: Captain Saurav Ganguly put India on course for the World Cup final on Thursday when his third century of the tournament helped his side to 270 for 4 from 50 overs in the semi-final clash with Kenya in Durban.
The skipper, who won the toss and elected to bat, finished unbeaten on 111 from 114 balls in a knock which featured five huge sixes, two of which sailed over and out of the Kingsmead ground.Opener Sachin Tendulkar continued his rich vein of form with 83 as he and Virender Sehwag put on 74 for the first wicket before he teamed up with Ganguly in a second wicket stand of 103 to put India within sight of Sunday's final at the Wanderers where defending champion Australia is waiting.Kenya, the first non-Test playing nation to reach the last four of the World Cup, will face an almost impossible task chasing 271 to win under heavy clouds as well as the Kingsmead lights."It was hard work out there and we really wanted to restrict them to 230-250 to have a chance," said Kenya's Hitesh Modi."But we will go out there and be positive and see what happens."Ganguly brought up his 22nd One-day International century in majestic form with his fifth and final six while his innings took him to 441 for the tournament - second behind Tendulkar who took his individual tally to 669.It was also Ganguly's second hundred against Kenya at this World Cup, following the unbeaten 107 he made in India's six wicket Super Six victory at Cape Town earlier this month.Kenya's hard-working attack lacked the pace to worry the batsmen although many boundary-destined shots slowed up on an outfield subjected to two days of heavy rain.
