India doesn't stand even 5 % chance of winning WC: Bedi
New Delhi: Slamming Indian cricketers for lacking in commitment, former Indian captain Bishen Singh Bedi on Thursday said the team stood no chance of winning the World Cup as it was focussing only on qualifying for the Super Six. The former left arm spinner blamed excess commercialisation and poor leadership by Saurav Ganguly for India's recent slump and said the team did not have "even five per cent" chance of winning the World Cup. "We don't even have five per cent chance of winning... Our sight should be on the Cup, whereas we are just thinking of qualifying for the Super Six," Bedi said in a television programme telecast by SABe TV. Apart from playing good cricket, Indian cricketers should learn to respect the game, Bedi said. "Anybody who rates himself bigger than the game is not the right person to lead... He does not own up his mistakes, and that is what irks me," Bedi said on skipper Ganguly's leadership skills. Expressing concern over the increasing influence of money on the game, Bedi concurred with the view that players had lost their focus after spending time shooting for commercials. "This is a massive distraction... their (players) principle is to play good cricket and profits will follow automatically, but the case here is that they are thinking of profit ahead of principles," he said. The team has to evolve as a different group that refuses to accept defeat if they want to win the Cup. "We don't have this attitude," he said. Extras:
