Johannesburg: England opening batsman Nick Knight believes the team is on the verge of producing "something special" at the World Cup.
Nasser Hussain's men lost four points without playing a game when it chose to boycott its February 13 opener against Zimbabwe, but they kick-started its campaign with victory over minnows of the Netherlands on Sunday where Warwickshire left- hander Knight joint top-scored with 51. England is up against another of the tournament's small fry, Namibia, in their next match in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday. But Knight is confident that the team can produce the goods against Group 'A' big guns Pakistan, India and world champion Australia. "We're determined to do ourselves justice in this World Cup and do well," Knight told the BBC. "We've had a good preparation in the last week among all that's been going on and we're quietly confident we can do something special." After its withdrawal from Zimbabwe it seemed as if England had done irreversible damage to its chances of qualifying for the World Cup's second phase, the Super Six. But Knight, while admitting England would not be over-confident against Namibia was equally insistent the side would not be overawed when it faced the group's 'big three'. "We know the situation and you can never count your chickens in this game. Now we've got Namibia which we won't be taking lightly. But then we've got big games against Pakistan, India and Australia. We know we've got to win those games and we're quietly confident."
