ICC adds rider in letting ACB to replace tainted Warne
Sydney: The International Cricket Council has said Australia can replace dope- tainted Shane Warne in its World Cup squad for the remaining matches of the tournament. But the ICC's directive comes with a rider. If Australia replaces Warne with another player, it cannot bring back the leggie in the squad in the event of Warne being cleared of doping offence. ICC general manager Dave Richardson said on Sunday night Australia could bring a new player into the squad even though Warne's omission was due to suspension and not injury. "That's the rule set out before the tournament. If they bring someone in they can't bring Warne back," Richardson said. Richardson said the Australian Cricket Board was yet to tell what it intended to do, according to a report in 'The Australian' newspaper. "They haven't told us what they are intending to do as yet. I guess they are still waiting for Warne's 'B' sample results." Warne is awaiting the result of his 'B' sample after the 'A' sample taken last month tested positive for diuretic, a masking agent. The result of the 'B' sample is expected to be revealed to Warne on Monday. Extras:
