Olonga banned by his club for outburst against Mugabe
Johannesburg: Zimbabwean pace bowler Henry Olonga has been suspended by his club following his outburst against the Robert Mugabe regime, South African radio reported on Tuesday. The South African national radio SAFM reported that Olonga's club took the decision after the player along with teammate Andy Flower issued a statement against the state of affairs in their country before Zimbabwe beat Namibia in a rain-curtailed match on Monday. The club said they were suspending the player because he had brought disrespect to the country. Olonga and Flower had said they were concerned about the lack of democracy in Zimbabwe and the suffering faced by hundreds of thousands of Zimbabwean citizens. They said they feared hundreds of people would die because of poverty and hunger. The two players also wore black arm bands during the match to register their protest and said they would wear the armbands during the entire duration of the tournament. Olonga and Flower said they were protesting as individuals and not on behalf of the entire team. The Zimbabwean Cricket Union (ZCU) said they were also investigating the incident. Extras:
