Bangladesh loses to provincial team in World Cup warm-up
Ladysmith: World Cup hopefuls Bangladesh was beaten by 38 runs with 7.4 overs to spare by a provincial KwaZulu-Natal squad on Monday in the Eastern South African town. The Durban-based Dolphins won the toss and elected to bat, with Doug Watson, 50, and Hashim Amla, 48, adding a brisk 86 for the second wicket. After that wickets fell steadily before Gulam Bodi hit a bright 39 off 20 balls with three fours and three sixes to take the Dolphins to 191 for six after their 35 overs. The Bangladesh innings never recovered from a bad start, which saw it teetering on 26 for three after 7.1 overs with the Dolphins' Gulam Bodi completing a fine day -- finishing with three for 19. The best of the Bangladeshi batting came from Al Sahariar, 45, who hit two sixes and four fours off 33 balls. The other batsman to show some form was Alok Kapali, 27. Earlier, a large crowd of more than 5,500 waited patiently for over three hours in light rain before play could get under way at Settlers Park in Ladysmith, about 350 kilometres (215 miles) South East of Johannesburg. In a successful effort to speed up the drying process and prevent the match from being abandoned, the ground staff resorted to burning diesel on the damp spots on the pitch.
