Pak was never under a cloud or suspicion: Manager

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Colombo: Amidst conflicting reports on the International Cricket Council (ICC) clearing Pakistan team of any wrongdoing, team manager Yawar Saeed on Wednesday said the question of absolving his side did not arise because they were never under any suspicion in the first place. "We were never under a cloud or suspicion. There is no question of clearing us," he said when asked whether the ICC had cleared them after viewing videotapes of Pakistan's first match in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy against Sri Lanka.

Saeed said the ICC had not sent any communication to the Pakistan team management in this regard. "I have no communication from the ICC. Only the press has been amusing me with these questions." ICC officials said it had nothing to say on the matter even as a media report said the game's governing body had cleared the team of match-fixing and ball-tampering allegations and was treating the matter as closed. The ICC had said on Monday that its Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) had called for the tapes and reviewed "a number of incidents that took place in the opening match of the tournament" on September 12. The ICC had clarified that the review was part of the ACU's security protocol for the tournament, and that it would call for tapes in relation to any match and look into any incident that struck the anti-corruption officials as odd.
