Players given time till Sept 9 to sign contract
New Delhi: The Indian team for Champions Trophy cricket tournament in Sri Lanka will be selected on September 9. The cricketers have been given time till Monday to sign the players' terms forms for the tournament and only those signing it will be selected. This was announced by BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya after a four-hour meeting of the working committee of the Board held here on Friday. Dalmiya said selection committee will meet in Kolkata on September 9 and choose the best available team. He said the players would have to sign the agreement and abide by the 30-day clause after the match. The Board would be ready to compensate the players in case they have any problem because of signing of the contract. Regarding the other contentious clause involving the use of players' images, Dalmiya said three of the four tournament sponsors had given it in writing that they will not call the Indian players for imaging. "The other sponsor, South African Airways, has said they are not interested in players of countries other than South Africa," Dalmiya said. "Thus, this issue has been resolved," he said.
