Sachin in nets to overcome grief of grandma's death

Mumbai: Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar suffered a personal loss when his grandmother, Indumati Tendulkar, passed away here on Sunday night, family sources said on Monday. She was 92.

Indumati, who had been staying with Tendulkar after his father Ramesh Tendulkar's death three years ago, died in her sleep, the sources added. The funeral was held in the morning. Tendulkar, who is currently with the Indian team in England, was given the option to skip practice but the maestro joined the team in the nets, saying it would help him keep his mind off the tragedy, reports from London said. At the time of the death of his father too, Tendulkar was in England, playing in the World Cup 1999. In the very first outing after a brief visit to Mumbai to attend the funeral, Tendulkar scored a brilliant match-winning century against Kenya which he dedicated to the memory of his father. Extras:
