What will happen if the top capitalists of a country join together to form a trade union? What will be their demands? It will be interesting to see whether they support strikes and hartals.
Wealthiest Indian in the world, Mukesh Ambani, king maker of bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, liquor baron Vijay Mallya, glamorous actor Priety Zinta are joining together to form a union to safeguard their interests.
IPL owners recently met at Bangkok and decided to form an union called ‘Franchisees United’. The main objective of the union is to play a larger role in BCCI’s decision-making and explore opportunities to maximise revenues.
Paper work is going on and the association would be formalised in the next couple of months.
The major challenge the 'union' is to take the IPL governing body lead by Lalit Modi, who declared that from 2011 all the players can be re-auctioned. Most of the owners found it difficult to voice their opinion in an appropriate manner and thus they have decided to form Franchisees United.
“We need a formal mechanism to to ensure that the IPL and franchisees engage each other on a regular basis. It is important that this association be representative of the wider spectrum of the IPL franchisee fraternity,” said Kings XI Punjab co-owner Mohit Burman.
