Sachin's ton in vain, Oz wins in a cliff hanger

Sachins ton in vain, Oz thrash India
Hyderabad: Australia beat India by three runs despite a spectacular 175 off 141 balls by Sachin Tendulkar in the fifth one-day international at Hyderabad on Thursday.

Chasing Australia mammoth 350 for four, the Indians rode on Tendulkar's heroic 141 ball knock to come within sniffing distance of a remarkable win but the tail-enders faltered under pressure to be all out for 347 with two balls to spare.

Tendulkar smashed 19 fours and four huge sixes for his 45th one-day century before India were bowled out for 347 in 49.4 overs.

Sachin's dismissal in the 48th over proved the turning point of the game and handed Australia a 3-2 lead in the seven-match series

Earlier, when Sachin reached seven, Tendulkar became the first cricketer to make 17,000 runs in ODIs. It was his 435th match.

Indian operers were off to a great start with Virender Sehwag (38) and Tendulkar puting on 66 runs in 53 balls, but lost their way in the middle with three quick dismissals of Gambhi, Dhoni and Yuvraj.

Tendulkar stitched a 137 partnership with Suresh Raina to leave India needing 52 runs with just under eight overs left.

But Raina skied a pull shot off Shane Watson to be out for a run-a-ball 59 which included three sixes, and Harbhajan Singh fell to the same bowler two deliveries after.

Tendulkar's superb knock came to a disappointing end from the first ball of the 48th over as he gave a simple catch to Nathan Hauritz off seamer Clint McKay, leaving India needing 19 off 17 balls.

Praveen Kumar smashed a six to reduce the target to seven runs from the final over, but after three singles he was run out by Hauritz to end a great match.

Earlier, Marsh hit eight fours and two sixes in his run-a-ball knock for his maiden one-day hundred, reached with a clipped two to deep square leg off paceman Ashish Nehra (1-79).

Watson too thrived in batsmen-friendly conditions, hitting nine fours and three sixes in his 89-ball effort before being caught at deep mid-wicket as he tried to slog sweep off-spinner Harbhajan Singh (1-44).

Cameron White chipped in with a sparkling 57 off 33 balls to complete a run-feast by the injury-hit Aussies, missing nine of their regular one-day players to various niggles.thatsCricket

If you demands more from Tendulkar, what should it be named? He played brilliantly and it was more than just a batsman's role that he completed. If the captain can't handle the rest of the players, what can be done? India is a team with so many talented batsmen and their talent is not used when it is most needed. In 1990s India was a one man army. Yesterday, it was the same thing happened. If any other batsman had showed the patience to keep the other wicket, India would have won the game easily.
