Sachin falls seven runs short of record

Sachin
Mohali: Sachin Tendulkar was seven runs short of getting to 17000 one day international runs when he was dismissed for 40 in the fourth ODI against Australia.

On Monday, Tendulkar was just short of 47 runs to reach the magical figure of 17000 runs. He had a great chance of achieving the milestone at Mohali and the entire crowd was waiting for that historic moment. But, they were left disappointed when Aussie spinner Nathan Hauritz trapped him leg-before in the 19th over.

TV replays showed the ball was missing the leg stump but umpire Ashoka De Silva thought otherwise and raised his finger much to the dismay of the packed crowd.

Cricket legend, who has 44 One-day hundreds to his credit, will now have to wait until the fifth match on Thursday in Hyderabad to make another attempt at reaching the milestone.

Tendulkar's innings on Monday, which came off 68 balls, was a mix of caution and aggression during which he hit six fours.

The diminutive Mumbaikar, who made his ODI debut Pakistan in 1989, is already way ahead of his contemporaries when it comes to accumulating runs.
