New Delhi: Is Ponting a better batsman than India's Sachin Tendulkar? The debate has already started ahead of Australia's first ODI against India.
Former Australian captain Ian Chappell rates Ricky Ponting as a better batsman than India's Tendulkar.
"Sachin has been an outstanding player. And to be an outstanding player for such a long time takes a lot of things. But for a long part of his career he was the best batsman in the world. I don't think he is that anymore. I think Ricky Ponting has taken that role over now."
Australia-India-ODI FixtureChappel's statement has opened up war of war of words between cricket fans ahead of the India-Oz ODI series.
Chappell also said that Australians are the favourites to win the upcoming ODI series.
Former Australian captain noted that the rivalry between India and Australia is for good for the game.
India-Australia ODI series is scheduled to start on October 25 in Vadodara and will end with final day/night clash at Navi Mumbai on November 11.
The other matches in the Indo-Oz series are to be held at Nagpur (Oct 28), Delhi (Oct 31), Mohali (Nov 2), Hyderabad (Nov 5) and Guwahati (Nov 8).
