Mumbai, Aug 22: India Test skipper Anil Kumble today said he has no plans to retire in the near future.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ING bank promotional function, Kumble, who is the Brand Ambassador of the bank, said, ''he has not yet thought of retirement as of yet.'' The ace leg-spinner retired from One-day cricket two years ago.

Asked about Ajanta Mendis, the Sri Lankan mystery bowler, Kumble said he is a good bowler, but slowly people will figure him out. ''Our problem in the Test series was that our batsmen were down on confidence and therefore had a bit of trouble.'' Kumble further said whenever a bowler is even slightly unorthodox, people start calling him names like freak bowler and mystery bowler.

''It happened with me also. When people said that I could not spin the ball. However, all that is needed is to create doubts in the batsmen's mind which I was able to do. You have to keep evolving as the batsmen start reading you better and better and it is the same with Ajanta Mendis,'' he added.

Test cricket will be able to survive the onslaught of Twenty20 cricket, though Kumble admitted that the newest form of the game was here to stay.

''Twenty20 offers the spectators instant entertainment, but Test cricket is the ultimate, and it offers entertainment to the spectators with gripping cricket with the game folding out session after session with different strategies and gameplans being used,'' he added.
