Sydney:Former pace bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick has been put in charge of the Australia women's team for the summer series against New Zealand.
Aussie eves fast bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick, who recently retired after a 16-year international career has been appointed as acting coach.
She replaces Mark Sorrell, who was recently appointed coach of the South Australia men's team.
"I'm looking forward to the responsibility of preparing the team for a tough series against New Zealand," she commented.
"My main goal will be to prepare the team so it can maintain the high level of performance that delivered success in India earlier this year."
Fitzpatrick's appointment could curtail her interest in the job of England women's coach.
She made contact with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) when Richard bates resigned his position last month and told
BBC Sport: "I think I've got quite a few things to offer.
"It would be fantastic for me to be given the chance to get in there, roll my sleeves up and get my hands dirty and maybe introduce some different things."
The ECB plans to hold interviews for the post at the end of the month.
Cricket Australia, meanwhile, plans to advertise the role of national head women's coach in the near future.
