Players' media commitments policy to be streamlined
S K Nair
New Delhi:The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to incorporate new clauses in the players' contracts as part of its effort to streamline its policy with regard to media commitments of cricketers, a BCCI official said today.

The new terms and conditions, spelling out how and when players could deal with the media, would be in addition to what already exists in the annual contracts and probably included when the contracts are renewed in November.

"There are already certain contractual obligations on the part of the players. In the future, some more points maybe be included. But it is a policy decision and can be made only by the working committee," BCCI secretary S K Nair said.

"It is to streamline the policy. Since the basic points are there in the contracts, there is going to be no harm (by the addition of the new ones).

"The contracts are up for renewal in November, and if a decision is made by that time, we will add them in the new contracts," he said.

Nair, however, said the media binge at the recent team camp in Bangalore where new coach Greg Chappell interacted with the players for the first time was not the immediate provocation for the Board to swing into action. "No, we have been thinking on these lines for some time," he said.
