Mumbai: With the defeat to Australia in the World Cup final still rankling him, Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly on Tuesday said he was sure India would improve on its performance and win the 2007 World Cup in West Indies. India, playing the final of the World Cup after 20 years, was thrashed by Australia who piled up a record 359 for two to register a 125-run victory. But Ganguly was happy with the overall performance of his team and said the experience gained by the younger players would help India in winning the next World Cup. "The way the team played, the whole country is proud. I am sure we can win the World Cup in 2007," he said. "I am confident we would do better in times to come as my team mates who have always stood by me are determined to do their best," he said. Ganguly admitted the defeat in the final had taken some sheen off the team's otherwise fine performance in the tournament even though the loss had come against the best side in the world. "Losing the final has taken the sheen away from the good performance. They certainly were the best team but it does not mean that we had to lose to them," Ganguly said at a function. Ganguly was felicitated by All India Association of Industries and a leading public relations agency Percept D'mark at a function which was attended, among others, by Maharashtra chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, and film stars Poonam Dhillon and Biswajit.
