Civic reception for Ganguly at historic Town Hall
Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation would accord a civic reception to Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly at the historic Town Hall, the venue where Noble laureates Rabindranath Tagore and Amartya Sen were felicitated for doing the country proud in the past. The reception would be held in the third or last week of next month, city Mayor Subrata Mukherjee said on Thursday. ''Though India failed to win the World Cup, the boys put up a brilliant show to reach the final. Moreover, Ganguly's leadership was excellent,'' Mukherjee said. The Town Hall, a heritage building, has been the site of a number of historic meetings, including the reception given to Tagore on his 70th birthday in 1930. Economist Amartya Sen was also given a civic reception at the hall in 2000 after he won the Noble. The Mayor, who had gone to Ganguly's residence on Wednesday, said he had congratulated the Indian skipper on behalf of the 60 lakh citizens of the metropolis. Extras:
