Kolkata: The West Bengal assembly on Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution congratulating Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly and his team for the performance in the World Cup. The resolution, moved by Robin Deb (CPI-M), said that the house was proud of Saurav for steering the Indian team to the World Cup finals. All political parties supported the resolution. Minister for Urban Development Ashok Bhattacharya said that although the team failed to win the Cup, its performance had made the country proud. Bhattacharya said that the state government would felicitate Saurav and others like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Javagal Srinath in the metropolis on April four at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. He said that efforts were being made to contact Sachin, Dravid and Srinath so that they could be present at the function. The minister said that a similar function was also being planned at Siliguri on April 20.
