Bangalore: Kerala's K N Ananthapadmanabhan grabbed four wickets but could not prevent Karnataka from gaining a 103 run first innings lead on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Division final on Wednesday. For the hosts and former Champions, debutant Sudhindra Shinde shared the lime-light with skipper J Arun Kumar as they hit 84 runs each to stamp the side's dominance over Kerala, which had made 190 in its first knock. Resuming from 31 without loss at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, opener Barrington Rowland was the first to go, caught by Sujith Somasundar off Ananthapadmanabhan for 22. Then, Arun Kumar, who hit 12 fours in his 174-ball knock, and Shinde, whose 136-ball innings was laced with 12 fours and one six, put on 55 runs for the second wicket. Both fell to Padmanabhan, who returned with four wickets for 98 runs. Vijay R Bharadwaj made 36 and Deepak Chowgule 13. At stumps, Karnataka was 293 for five in 100 overs with V S Thilak Naidu batting on 35 and Sunil Joshi yet to open his account.
