Bangalore: A devastating spell by Sunil Joshi and Udit Patel helped former Ranji Champions Karnataka bundle out Kerala to a paltry 190 runs in its first innings on the opening day of the five-day Ranji Trophy final plate division match on Tuesday. The opening pair, Sujith Somasundar and Munzzam Nathani laid a good foundation for Kerala innings putting up a 58-run partnership, before Nathani was dismissed by Joshi. Hemanth Kumar, who joined Sujit contributed a valuable 47-run partnership. The exit of Sujit, who fell to Joshi when the side's score read 105 for two, virtually signalled the collapse of the Kerala batting line-up. Kerala skipper Sunil Oasis returned to the pavilion for a duck when he was caught behind the wicket by V S Thilak Nadu off Joshi delivery. Barring Ajay Kudua (22) who was run out and M Vipin Pal (20), other batsmen could not offer any resistance to the Karnataka bowling attack, Joshi had a haul of six wickets, while Udit Patel scalped three wickets. Kerala lost three wickets at the score of 188 and its innings folded up with an addition of two runs in 77.3 overs. Karnataka, which began its reply was 31 for no loss when stumps was drawn with J Arun Kumar batting on 16 and Barrington Rowland on six runs.
