I'm ready to play again, will fight to be in team: Thorpe
London: Graham Thorpe revealed on Tuesday that he wants to return to the international game and is determined to fight for his place in the England team. The left-hander retired from One-day International cricket last summer, saying the demands of the season put too much strain on his body. His form was also suffering in the wake of his marriage break-up and the Surrey batsman told selectors that he needed time to sort out his personal life so that he could concentrate on his playing career. "I'm really up for my cricket now. I'm confident I can play my best and then it's up to others to decide whether I should play for England," he told the 'Daily Mail'. "I want to play all I can and that means I would love to be in the squad. I've picked myself up. I do not like the way I left things last summer. I would not want to be remembered for that." Thorpe would have been an integral part of England's World Cup campaign, which has been progressing smoothly with a 112-run victory over Pakistan last weekend. He has scored 2,380 runs in 87 One-day appearances for England at an average of 37.18. He has made 50 on 11 occasions but never reached three figures, with his highest score of 89 coming against Pakistan in Peshawar during the 1996 World Cup. Copyright AFP 2001
