Pak requires collective efforts to win the WC: Musharraf

Lahore: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf said at the weekend he has high hopes Pakistan team would win the World Cup if the country's players put in a collective effort.

"No doubt our team is one of the best in the world and what it requires is to show collective efforts in the Cup," Musharraf told reporters late on Saturday. "It is a very talented side and players are full of potential, but they are disorganised and they must overcome this factor in order to get productive results." Musharraf, who is also the patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said he is a keen follower of cricket and has pinned his hopes on the Pakistan team winning the event. "One has a lot of hope," he said after inaugurating the national cricket academy in the eastern city of Lahore. Musharraf last month promised lucrative cash prizes for players who helped win the world title for Pakistan. Pakistan, one of the most unpredictable sides in world cricket, takes on defending champion Australia on Tuesday. Before leaving for South Africa last week, captain Waqar Younis warned that his under-performing team should not be written off as non-contenders for the cricket World Cup.
