Guwahati: Splendid bowling by Assam spinner Arlan Konwar helped his team to a crushing innings and 87 runs victory over Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday to ensure his team remained in the elite group of Ranji Trophy. Konwar bagged a career-best six wickets for 46 runs as Uttar Pradesh, which needed 230 runs to force Assam bat again, finished its second innings at 171. Konwar used the turning track of the Nehru Stadium wicket and took vital wickets at regular intervals to negate any chances of the visitors to stage a fight back. Konwar's accuracy was the hallmark of his bowling as at one stage he took four wickets in successive overs starting from his eleventh over to bring the downfall of the UP batsmen. This is Konwar's best bowling performance in domestic cricket after his six for 57 he took against Orissa in its Ranji trophy encounter at the Maligaon Railway Stadium earlier in this season. With Tuesday's win, Assam secured three points and took its overall tally to four points which it needed to remain in the elite Group 'B' with Baroda, Tamil Nadu and Punjab.
