New Delhi: Cricketer Ajay Jadeja was prevented from playing in a local league match on Thursday by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), just three days after a five-year ban on him was quashed by a Delhi High Court appointed arbitrator. Armed with the court order, Jadeja reached the venue on Thursday morning and started playing for the club for which he played earlier. But seven overs into the match, some DDCA officials came and objected to Jadeja playing the game. They said the BCCI was yet to take a final decision on Jadeja and as such he could not play on Thursday. The match was abandoned and would be replayed at a later date after taking the suggestion of the BCCI. DDCA vice-president C K Khanna said he had spoken to BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya on the matter. "He (Dalmiya) told me that Jadeja's clearance by the court was yet to be studied by the BCCI working committee. A decision on him is pending and he could not be allowed to play now," Khanna said. "For DDCA to allow him to play, we must get a directive from the BCCI," he said. However, Jadeja said the court order should have sufficed. "I showed them the court order. But they said I could not play. I think there is some misunderstanding about the 90-day period during which the BCCI has the right to appeal against the court order. It is not that I cannot play during those 90 days," Jadeja said. "I am feeling little bad because I turned out to play after a long time and was not allowed to. I am also feeling sorry for other players because the match was abandoned. "But this is not a very big issue and would be sorted out soon."
