New Delhi: Reacting sharply to Delhi and District Cricket Association's refusal to allow Ajay Jadeja to play in a local league match, the cricketer's counsel on Thursday said the decision of the Arbitrator to lift the five-year ban on him was binding and effective from the day of the award. "It was shocking that he was not allowed to play. The award is final and binding between the parties," Jadeja's advocate Vineet Malhotra said. He said the Arbitrator's award came into effect from the day it was delivered and was different from a money decree which requires execution. Asked what would be their next course of action, Malhotra said, "We are examining everything and see what can be done." "One can only hope that wise sense would prevail with the administrators of game so that Jadeja can play on the field rather than in the courts," Malhotra said. He said the issue of ban on cricketer was referred to arbitration after both Jadeja and BCCI had given their consent to settle it through an Arbitrator. The Delhi High Court appointer Arbitrator Justice J K Mehra on January 27 had quashed the five-year ban imposed on Jadeja by BCCI for his alleged involvement in the match-fixing scandal terming the findings of Madhavan Committee report as illegal and against the principles of natural justice. The Arbitrator had held that Jadeja has a right to play domestic and international cricket at all levels "as if the ban was not there". However, Jadeja was today restrained from playing by DDCA officials on the ground that the Board was yet to take final decision on Jadeja.
