The former New Zealand international Shirley Cowles was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) 'for services to cricket' in the New Year's Honours List. Shirley made her Test debut against England, in the second Test of England's 1968/69 tour of New Zealand. The last of her seven Tests was the one-off Test against India in Dunedin in 1976/7. She was also a member of the New Zealand team at the 1973 World Cup. An MNZM is the equivalent of a British MBE. Courtesy: Don Miles (www.webbsoc.demon.co.uk)
