Bangalore: The England under-19 team, touring Australia currently, won its first tour match against Tasmania by 8 wickets on Thursday, January 2. Set a victory target of 112, England under-19 scored the needed runs in 18.4 overs with both openers Salliann Briggs and Alexis Mannion top scoring with 36 runs each. Fast-medium pacer Isha Guha was the star of the show picking up five Tasmania wickets for 22 runs.Having opted to take first strike, the home team failed to set a challenging total. Although opener Beams (32) and one-drop Tehla (48) consolidated things after the early loss of opener Fitzgerald (0) bowled Davies, the rest of the pack folded up with out offering any kind of resistance. Apart from Isa Guha, who was a standout running through the middle and lower half of Tasmania, off spinner Wardlaw picked up a brace. In reply, Briggs and Mannion rattled up the Tasmania bowlers posting 68 runs in the first 10 overs. However both the openers departed when a half-century was there for the taking. Greenway and Harper finished off things for the tourists with both remaining unbeaten on 11.
