Chennai: Indian vice-captain Rahul Dravid, who has had a splendid year in international cricket, playing a key role for India in both forms of the game and piling on over 1200 runs in 2002 in Tests, has been named 'The Sportstar's Sportsperson-of-the-Year-2002.'
Dravid joins an illustrious list of top Indian sportspersons. Sachin Tendulkar was The Sportstar's first Sportsperson-of-the-Year in 1994 and he's been followed by Viswanathan Anand, Leander Paes, Saurav Ganguly, Mohammad Azharuddin, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, Karnam Malleswari and Pullela Gopichand, a press release from the publication said on Saturday. 'The Sportstar' has also named Kapil Dev for its 2002 Legend-of-Indian-Sport award. Kapil joins Sunil Gavaskar, Ramanathan Krishnan, Milkha Singh, Leslie Claudius, Sailen Manna and P T Usha. The magazine's Young-Achiever-Award for 2002 goes to the teenaged Indian wicket- keeper Parthiv Patel. Extras:
