Kerala loses thriller to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka wins in South Zone ODIs Bangalore: Hemanth Kumar's superb knock of 128 was in vain as Kerala lost to Tamil Nadu by three wickets in a high-scoring match, while defending champions Karnataka and Hyderabad notched victories in the South Zone One-day tournament for the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy on Tuesday. Fuelled by Hemanth Kumar's 145-ball innings studded with 12 fours and a six, Kerala piled up 286 for nine in 50 overs. Captain Sunil Oasis hit 88, but other Kerala batsmen failed to impress. L Balaji and D Dhandapani took three wickets each for Tamil Nadu which, in reply, reached the target with three balls to spare with useful contributions from S Sriram (53), Hemang Badani (43), S Suresh (40), S Sharath (39) and D J Gokulakrishnan (36 not out). Sreekumar Nair claimed 3 for 52 for the losers. Karnataka drubbed Andhra, which made 219 for six, by eight wickets. For the visitors, Fayaz Ahmed top-scored with 98, followed by L N Prasada Reddy (58). Karnataka rattled up the required runs in 38.3 overs with Rowland Barrington (97 not out), Robin Uthappa (61) and Deepak Chowgule (51) being the contributors. In the other match, Swapnil Asnodkar (89), Rohit Rane (54) and Avdhut Amonkar (45) enabled Goa put up 267 for seven in their allotted 47 overs. In reply, Hyderabad reached the target with two balls to spare thanks largely to T Suman, who hit 89, and Vinay Kumar (64).
