Bangalore: T Suman smashed 104 as Hyderabad handed a seven-wicket defeat to Andhra, while star leg spinner Anil Kumble spun defending champions Karnataka to a 29-run win over Tamil Nadu in the South Zone Limited Overs tournament for the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy on Sunday.
In the other match of the day, Goa defeated Kerala by 89 runs. Laced with 11 fours and a six, Suman's 137-ball knock enabled Hyderabad easily surpass its opponent's modest total of 210 for eight. A T Rayudu ably assisted Suman with 62. Earlier, Nadeemuddin and Venkatapathy Raju took two wickets each for Hyderabad to restrict Andhra. Opting to bat, Goa made 232 for eight in 50 overs with useful contribution from Amit Dani (54), Mandar Phadke (46) and Sandeep Dhad (40). Ranjith Menon (2 for 51), Rejith Kumar (2 for 44) and Sreekumar Nair (2 for 47) shared the spoils. Only Sreekumar Nair, with 50, studded with seven fours, offered resistance. Deciding to bat first, Karnataka put up a modest 215 for nine in its 50 overs with none crossing the 35-run mark as D Dhandapani took three wickets and S Sriram two. In reply, despite a fine 82 by opener S Suresh, Tamil Nadu was all out for 186 in 47.4 overs with Kumble returning with impressive figures of 9.4-2-27-4.
