Bangalore: Inder Shekar Reddy grabbed five wickets as Hyderabad defeated defending champion Karnataka by four wickets, while Tamil Nadu and Kerala recorded an identical six-wicket victory over Goa and Andhra, respectively, in the South Zone Limited Overs tournament for the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy on Saturday. Opting to bat, Karnataka was skittled out for a paltry 120 in 35 overs. Only B Akhil (33), Sunil Joshi (31) and skipper J Arun Kumar (30) offered resistance while others failed to cross double figures. While Reddy took five for 28, Nadeemuddin and Faiz Ahmed scalped two each. Hyderabad reached the target in 37 overs for the loss of six wickets, with Vinay Kumar top scoring with an unbeaten 45. Anil Kumble took three for 28. Tamil Nadu, sending Goa into bat, scored its second victory. The match having started late due to overnight rain and bad light, and reduced to 38 overs, Goa put up a modest 152 all out in 36.2 overs with opener Sagun Kamath (40) being the leading scorer for it. Tamil Nadu rattled up the runs in 27.2 overs losing four wickets. Hemang Badani and R Satish remained unconquered on 33 and 28, respectively. Andhra crashed to its second defeat on Saturday, this time at the hands of Kerala. Deciding to bat first, Andhra made a respectable 231 for six in 40 overs with Amith Pathak (64) and Y Venugoapal Rao (55) playing well for it. Kerala gave a spirited reply as Sunil Oasis and Ajay Kudva, who came together when the side's fourth wicket fell at the score of 122, put up a good partnership and remained unbeaten on 99 and 45, respectively, to guide their team to a well-deserved win.
