Pune: splendid knock of 94 by Jaydeo Shah and a five-wicket haul by Birju Pathak helped Saurashtra register its second consecutive victory over Gujarat by four wickets with 2.4 overs to spare in the West Zone One-day Ranji Trophy at the Poona Club on Saturday. Electing to bat, Gujarat was all out on 254 with opener Nilesh Modi scoring 72 runs off 106 balls. Amit Sood also contributed 45 runs; Dilip Adiyal 29 and Pallav Vora made 23. In reply, Saurashtra scored 257 losing six wickets in the process. Shah's 94 included 14 boundaries and he was ably assisted by Altaf Merchant, who scored 41 off 70 balls. Prakash Bhatt also made a useful contribution of 34 runs while Ashok Kamalia scored 20. Rakesh Dhruva (26) and Birju Pathak (4) remained not out. For Gujarat rpt Gujarat Kirit Damani took two wickets, while Lalit Patel, Sidharth Trivedi and Hitesh Mazumdar took one wicket each. Birju Pathak was Saurashtra's star bowler who sent five batsmen to the pavilion including opener Nilesh Modi, Dilip Adiyal, Mukund Parmar, Siddharth Trivedi and Lalit Patel.
