Indians have ammunition to win World Cup: Kapil
Mumbai: Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev said on Saturday that the Indian cricket team has the ammunition to win the forthcoming World Cup in South Africa next year. Speaking to reporters after playing "Gully Cricket" with Bengal Club under-15 cricketers at Shivaji Park, the Wisden's Indian cricketer-of-the-century award winner, said, "My advice to the Indian team would be just go and win the World Cup as it has the talent and confidence to do so. "It (Indian) is a very good team. The players have the ammunition and all they have to do is to believe in themselves and perform to their full potential to win the Cup," he added. Kapil, who led India to its first ever World Cup win in 1983, said his mantra to success in cricket was "application, concentration and determination" and added, "If you can do these three to perfection then there is no reason not to come up as a cricketer." Speaking about the secret of his fitness, the 'Haryana Hurricane', who said he was happy to play on the Mecca of cricket grounds in Mumbai (Shivaji Park), said "fitness is the key of sportsmen's success". "It is essential for a fast bowler to work hard in his younger days to have injury free career. I have worked hard during my younger days and that is why I am fit even today," the former all-rounder added. "Even now I avoid fats and oily food and consume lots of vegetables and fruits and play gully cricket with youngsters to keep myself fit," Kapil Dev said.
