Gough delighted, fourth operation on knee not needed

London: England fast bowler Darren Gough said on Thursday he will not need a fourth operation on a career-threatening knee injury. Gough, 32, has just returned from the United States where he consulted specialist Dr Richard Steadman.

He had prepared himself for surgery but was delighted to be told it would not be required. "It is great news - I am really pleased," said Gough. "I thought I would have to have surgery, but the doctor said I didn't need it - just rehab," he told Teletext. "I am not sure where I am going to go to do the work. I can't run yet - but obviously I'm pleased." Yorkshire quick Gough was forced to fly home from England's Ashes tour before the first Test against Australia, and is also set to miss the World Cup, which starts in February in South Africa. He has not played Test cricket for over a year and was sidelined from nearly all of the last English season by his injury problems.
