Mumbai: Hosts Mumbai beat Delhi by nine wickets to win the Ranji Trophy Group 'A' league match, with a day to spare, at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing an easy target of 72 runs, Mumbai lost one wicket before notching up a convincing win. For Mumbai, Ajit Agarkar once again bowled well to claim three wickets for 67 runs while Rajesh Powar also took three wickets for 65 runs. Avishkar Salvi and Sairaj Bahutule claimed two wickets each. Resuming at its overnight score of 52 without loss and 127 runs behind, Delhi was all out for 250 in its second innings. Openers Akash Chopra and Gautam Ghambhir began cautiously and added 19 runs to the overnight total before Ghambhir was caught by Vinayak Mane off Avishkar Salvi. Chopra continued to hold his end after Delhi skipper Vijay Dahiya also got out cheaply. The next man in, Mithun Manhas scored bulk of the runs to save his team from a humiliating innings defeat. Manhas and Chopra played some glorious shots before the former was caught by N Patwardhan off Sairaj Bahutule. After Chopra's departure, none of the other Delhi batsmen, barring Sharandeep Singh (40), stayed long at the crease with Kuldeep Sharma and Abhishek Sharma returning for a duck. Singh and Manhas had the biggest partnership of 78 runs for the seventh wicket in Delhi innings. Mumbai lost Vinayak Mane in its chase with first innings centurion Wasim Jaffer remaining not out on 45.
