Chennai: Last year runners up, Baroda has been pushed to the wall by Tamil Nadu and faces the chance of drawing blank for the second successive time in the Elite 'B' Group National Ranji Trophy league match.
Baroda, lost the vital first innings lead of 46 runs to Tamil Nadu at close on the third and penultimate day on Tuesday in its second match. It had failed to score any point from its first match this season against Punjab early this month. As per the present new point system, the winner is awarded two points and the team, which secures first innings lead gets a point. As for the Baroda-Tamil Nadu match, the host, which was 115 for 2 overnight was helped by centurians and left handers S Sriram and S Sharath to surpass Baroda's first innings total of 381. Stumps were drawn for the day when Tamil Nadu was all out 427 in 123.2 overs. While Sharath, a consistent scorer for Tamil Nadu, was involved in two worthy stands of 73 for the 7th wicket with Dinesh Karthik (37-6 fours) in 23 overs and 70 for the eighth in 22.2 overs with Gokulakrishnan 50, Sriram, who top scored in the match with 128 put on 52 runs for the fourth wicket with Madanagopal 25 in 14.3 overs. Sharath made a superb 101 and hit 12 fours before he was caught at slip by V Buch of Bhoite. Sriram holed out at Silly point to R Solanki off Tushar Aarothe. Off spinner, Ajit Bhoite remained the chief wicket taker with 4 for 84 and left arm medium pacer Irfan Pathan claimed 3 for 98.
