Valsad: Assam batsmen made the most of a lacklustre Gujarat bowling attack to score 332 for eight in reply to Gujarat's 465 on the penultimate day of the four-day Ranji match on Tuesday.
Resuming at the overnight score of 101 for 2, Assam's Kiran Powar came to the team's rescue and played a brilliant knock of 72 runs, studded with six boundaries. His innings came to end when Bhavin Mehta's delivery hit the stumps. The middle order carried on the good work by Powar with S Bishwanthan 56 and Sumit Das 48and Assam skipper Zamaria Zuffroi 46 giving a tough time to Gujarat bowlers. At close, Sukhvinder Singh was on 33 and Mark Ingli 3 were at the crease. Bhavik Mehta and Lalit Patel were the successful bowlers for Gujarat, claiming 3 and 2 wickets for 88 and 71 runs respectively.
