Lee brushes aside Test axing to demolish Tasmania

Sydney: Brett Lee bounced back from his Test axing with five wickets to steer New South Wales into a strong position on the opening day of the Sheffield Shield cricket match with Tasmania at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday.
The dumped Australian paceman combined with fellow Test discard Stuart MacGill to demolish the Tasmanians' batting for 171 before tea.At stumps, NSW was 130 for two in reply with One-day International Michael Bevan unbeaten on 48 in his 100th first class match for NSW and Michael Clarke not out 44.Lee, who turned 26 on Friday, went into the match with something to prove after making way for Andy Bichel for the Ashes opener in Brisbane. Shane Warne's Test understudy leg spinner Stuart MacGill claimed four wickets.In Melbourne, Victoria was 43 for one at stumps after the opening day of their game with champions Queensland at the MCG. Former Test opener Matthew Elliott was 31 not out with Graeme Rummans on nine.Queensland was dismissed for 187 after winning the toss and One-day International Andrew Symonds top scored with 92, including 16 fours.
