Roger Binny hopes for thaw in Indo-Pak cricket ties

Lahore: Former Indian Test all-rounder Roger Binny called for a thaw in the Pakistan- India cricket relationship on Monday, saying a revival would be relished by both sides' fans.

"I hope a positive change will revive cricket between them, which will be in the best interests of the fans on both sides," Binny told. "So much interest is generated when Pakistan and India play cricket and even television viewers are in the millions." Binny was here to attend the Special Coaching Courses for national coaches held under the auspices of Asian Cricket Council. Participation by a two-member Indian delegation was one of the highlights of the course held from October 21-27. India has boycotted all cricket activities in Pakistan for the last two years and has even withdrawn from offshore events held in the desert venue of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. The neighbouring foes have not played since India lost to Pakistan in the league game of Asia Cup held in Dhaka, Bangladesh in June last year. India twice refused to tour Pakistan, first in December 2000 for a Test and One-day tour and then for an Asian Test Championship match in September 2001. A scheduled trip by the Indian side to Pakistan next April hinges on Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to Islamabad for a regional summit in January.
